Gently Healing from Birth Trauma with 3-Step Rewind Therapy
If your birth experience felt overwhelming, distressing, or even traumatic, you're not alone. Many parents, partners, and even healthcare professionals can carry emotional wounds from difficult pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding experiences.
It’s completely understandable to feel stuck or burdened by these memories. The good news is, healing is possible, and you deserve to feel at peace.
The 3-Step Rewind Therapy for Traumatic Birth Recovery is a safe and gentle process that helps you let go of painful memories and reclaim your sense of calm and confidence.
Using deep relaxation, mindfulness, and visualisation, this technique works to reduce the emotional intensity attached to those difficult experiences, helping you to feel lighter and more in control.
Birth Trauma is more common than you think
Although only around 5% of people meet the formal criteria for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following birth, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Many more parents experience signs of trauma that significantly affect their emotional well-being and their transition into parenthood.
Signs of birth trauma can include:
Panic attacks
Nightmares and flashbacks
Tearfulness and numbness
Anger and irritability
Avoidance of reminders of the birth
Problems in relationships
Feelings of failure and self-blame
A fear of birth (tokophobia) can also appear during pregnancy, while a difficult breastfeeding journey can lead to feelings of distress and guilt. Partners, fathers, and even healthcare professionals who have witnessed a traumatic birth can also be deeply affected.
Is the 3-Step-Rewind right for you?
This approach is designed for anyone who is struggling with emotional or psychological symptoms following a challenging or traumatic event during pregnancy, birth, or the postnatal period.
Whether you’ve experienced severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum), a traumatic birth, baby loss, breastfeeding challenges, or time spent in NICU, this process can help you feel more at ease and regain your emotional balance.
If you find yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unable to sleep due to these memories, 3-Step Rewind could be the support you need. However, this therapy is not suitable for those with a history of complex trauma unrelated to pregnancy.
How does it work?
The 3-Step Rewind allows you to gently revisit and reframe your memories in a safe, relaxed state, helping to reduce the emotional and physical distress they trigger. In three simple steps, together, we’ll explore how these experiences have impacted you and guide your mind to process them in a way that feels calm and empowering.
Step 1: Preparation (60 minutes)
In a supportive and relaxed space, we’ll gently explore how your experience is affecting you and what life could feel like without these difficult emotions. If you feel comfortable, you can share your story, but this is entirely optional. I'll guide you through a deep relaxation exercise, which you’ll take home as a recording to listen to between sessions.
Step 2: Rewind (60 minutes)
In this session, we’ll use guided visualisation in a deeply relaxed state to help your mind reprocess your memories. This allows you to revisit the experience without the emotional overwhelm, gradually easing the distress associated with those memories. We’ll also focus on visualising a more confident, positive future.
Step 3: Review (30 minutes)
10-14 days later, we’ll reflect on the changes you've noticed and any personal insights you've gained. This final step helps to consolidate your transformation and ensure you feel ready to move forward with hope and confidence.
