What is Hypnobirthing?

Your path to a calm and confident birth.

How does Hypnobirthing work?

Hypnobirthing isn’t a type of birth - it’s a toolkit that empowers you to approach birth calmly, confidently and with a sense of control. Hypnobirthing challenges the fear-tension-pain cycle that is deep rooted within us due to everything we have ever heard about birth.

By understanding the natural physiological process of childbirth, you can release fear and tension, which are the root causes of pain and discomfort during labour. The result? You will learn how to work with your body - not against it. Leading to a calmer, more positive birth experience, whatever your birth looks like.

What is the Science behind Hypnobirthing?

Beyond the soothing techniques and positive affirmations, Hypnobirthing is underpinned by science.

Oxytocin is the love hormone that gives the muscles of your uterus the power to birth your baby. Endorphins are the body’s natural pain relief.

The calmer and safer a mother feels, the more oxytocin and endorphins her body releases. This makes contractions more effective, more comfortable and lowers the likelihood of interventions.

You may be thinking, ‘I’ll just be calm in labour then.’ Unfortunately, it’s not as straight forward as deciding to be calm when it’s time to give birth.

Remember that fear-tension-pain cycle? When this happens, your body is flooded with the hormone adrenaline.

Adrenaline inhibits oxytocin, making your uterine muscles less effective and more uncomfortable.

Through Hypnobirthing, you’ll learn how to:

  • Harness your body’s natural pain-relieving hormones.

  • Reframe pain and embrace it.

  • Use deep breathing and relaxation techniques to ease tension.

  • Stay calm and focused, even when thing’s don’t go according to plan.

  • Get the best out of the maternity system and make empowered decisions that reflect your values and preferences.

  • Work in harmony with your birth partner to create an oxytocin-boosting environment.

What are the benefits of Hypnobirthing?

Less pain, more control:

Hypnobirthing helps reduce the need for medical pain relief by allowing your body to do what it’s naturally designed to do.

You’ll feel more relaxed and in control, which often leads to fewer medical interventions and a smoother labour.

A calmer birth environment:

Confidence for you and your birth partner:

Hypnobirthing prepares both of you for what to expect, so your birth partner knows exactly how to support and advocate for you.

Whether your birth goes exactly as planned or takes unexpected turns, you’ll be mentally and emotionally prepared for whatever happens.

Research you have to see

One of the numerous studies highlighting the impact of Hypnobirthing was conducted by The Royal Wolverhampton Hospital. The research examined how Hypnobirthing influenced a mother’s birth experience, compared to mothers in the general population who did not use Hypnobirthing techniques during their labour. The findings speak for themselves.
